Fedora now has flavour

Yesterday the Fedora Project released version 21 of the redhat sponsored distribution. This is the first release under it's fedora.next initiative that aims to revamp and modernize the system. I expect more radical changes to come and it provides us a preview of what is in store for the parent enterprise product RHEL.

With this release the team has decided to split out the Operating System into 3 related versions built on a common base but with differing default selections of packages.

Workstation is geared towards the desktop user and will include the common GUI environment while the Server variant will likely include database be a heavier version of workstation plus some common programming runtimes, webservers, and databases included. At the opposite end of the spectrum will be the minimalist Cloud image which will be the base and nothing more.
